47 million euros for the protection of intellectual property provided by the European Commission and the European Union Intellectual Property Office

On 10 January 2022, the European Union Intellectual Property Office and the European Commission announced the launch of the new SME Fund, which aims to support small and medium-sized enterprises in recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Support provided by the EU SME Fund, with a budget of 47 million euros:

Reimbursement of 75% of fees charged by intellectual property offices including national and European Intellectual Property offices.

Reimbursement of 90% of fees for pre-diagnosis services on intellectual property – IP Scan – which provides a comprehensive assessment of the IP needs of the applicant of the SME Fund, which takes into account the innovative potential of intangible assets.

Reimbursement of 50% of the fees charged by the World Intellectual Property Organization for international protection of trademarks and industrial designs.

At the same time, from 2023 onwards, other services could be covered, such as private IP consulting (for patent registration, intellectual property assessment, licensing agreements, etc.), or a partial reimbursement of the costs related to the patent application.
